ate. is a dish-first social rating app operated by Chicken Pizza Taco Inc. ("we", "us"). This policy explains what personal information the ate. iPhone app and this website collect, how it is used, and the choices you have. We do not sell personal information and the app shows no third-party advertising.
What we collect
- Account. Your email address and a password, or — with Sign in with Apple — the name and email Apple shares with us. We use this to create and secure your account.
- Profile. Your username, display name, avatar, home city, and optional food-profile answers (for example, your favorite dish type) chosen from fixed options.
- Content you post. Dish ratings (a 1.0–10.0 score), notes, photos, comments ("takes"), reactions, and who you follow.
- Restaurant information. When you attach a restaurant to a rating, we store that restaurant's public details (name, address, place identifier) from Google Places. The app does not track your device's location in the background.
- Photo metadata. A photo you add may carry embedded metadata such as where it was taken. The app may read that metadata on your device to suggest nearby restaurants, and it removes location and device metadata from every photo before it is uploaded — the stored and shared copy never contains it.
- Technical data. Basic logs needed to run and secure the service (such as timestamps and error reports).
How we use it
- To run the service: show your ratings, your feed, and profiles you follow.
- To build community features: each dish's community average and the city leaderboards are computed from members' scores. A rating you keep private still counts toward these aggregates, anonymously — it is never shown as yours.
- To suggest a dish type when you share a photo into the app, the photo is analyzed by an AI image-classification service. The result is only a suggestion; you confirm the dish yourself.
- To respond when you contact us, and to keep the service safe (moderation of reported content).
Who can see what
Every rating has a visibility you choose when posting: Everyone, Friends (people you follow who follow you back), or Just me. Public ratings and public profile pages can be viewed on this website by people without an account. Your email address is never public.
Service providers
We share data only with the providers needed to run ate.:
- Supabase — hosts our database, authentication, and photo storage.
- Google Places — restaurant search and details.
- An AI image-classification provider — processes photos you share into the app, solely to suggest a dish type.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple and App Store distribution.
- Cloudflare — serves this website.
Each processes data on our instructions to provide their service. Data may be stored outside your province or country.
Retention and deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in the app (You → Delete account); this permanently removes your account and your content. You can also email us at privacy@ateandrate.com and we will delete it for you. Individual ratings and photos can be deleted in the app at any time.
Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, or withdraw consent, by emailing privacy@ateandrate.com. If you are in Québec, these rights are protected by the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25); the person responsible for the protection of personal information can be reached at the same address.
Children
ate. is not directed to children and is not intended for anyone under 14. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children; if you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update this page and its effective date, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app.
